I originally posted this about two years ago but was reminded of it when I saw English Mums request to write about six bizarre occurances in ones life, “the wierder the better”. I was only able to think of four.
Then I remembered this incident which follows but thought it a bit huge for a comment box.
I decided to give it a second airing instead.
I think it deserves it.

A topsy-turvy week this week. The irreplaceable Austin is off sick, so I have been doing my best to keep the customers satisfied at the English Market shop. (And no, he wasn’t just skiving so as to go the Liverpool match – quiet at the back, please!)
I thought I’d better let yous know that you can try one of our wines in the flesh, so to speak, at URRU, McSwiney Quay, Bandon this Saturday. Continue reading »

I’ve noticed amongst blogging friends that we are all letting ourselves go a bit, I’ll take the slack for this I know! It seems that blogs are a bit like relationships, at first you’re so excited about it and post every day, sometimes even twice a day!!! As it becomes more everyday you post less, as you settle into your blogging status. Continue reading »

I’ve nothing much to report on the new business front except that the contracts to be signed are in the post as we speak, the accountant is getting the business plan together, I’ve warned my bank manager that we are coming to get lots of money, he thinks I’m joking, he’s in for some shock, Alessandro is in Italy sourcing equipment so it’s busy, busy!!!! I am off to Antwerp, Belgium this weekend for our ten year class reunion. I am both excited and apprehensive as high school was not exactly a happy time for me.
I will be in Dublin tonight, if anyone is around, should be in the Temple Bar area from 8 onwards. If you’re on Twitter or Facebook get my cell phone number there or email me if you’re up for meeting up!
Before I go I thought I’d leave you with a REALLY easy but tasty recipe, tostones. Continue reading »

Tucking in to a cloned meat steak could soon be a reality. Meat and dairy coming from cloned cows may soon be available from your friendly local supermarket.
Back in January the United States food and drug administration reported that meat and dairy sourced from cloned animals was safe for human consumption. Already across the US people are eating meals prepared with meat derived from the young of cloned cows, pigs and goats. Continue reading »

I have never done one of these things before, but I feel I need to make the effort to join in with the fun so these are my ten best pictures.
Sweet corn fritters with sweet chilli sauce
Christmas spiced shortbread
Maple and pecan pie
Beautifully succulent BBQ chicken
Ripe peaches and raspberries crushed with cold, crisp sparkling wine
Crushed biscuits drizzled with Cointreau, and mascarpone with cream, orange zest and white chocolate mixed with fresh raspberries. Continue reading »

It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was lamenting the never ending Chicago winter with soup recipes, but the great thing about Chicago is that one day it’s winter and the next it’s full-blown spring: thunderstorms, warm nights and all. Last night was a particularly warm evening that was just begging for some barbecue and a leisurely dinner on the balcony. And that’s just what we did. Continue reading »

We’ve started receiving some of the goodies for the book launch next week, not least of which were some cases of Champagne.
Actually, it’s sparkling wine, since it’s not from Champagne at all, but rather from Alsace. We chose this Meyer Brut because it’s not only organic but biodynamic, and it comes recommended by Julian.
This is the second biodynamic sparkling wine I will have tasted. Continue reading »

This is Me with Great Nephew Liam, last night at Milo’s birthday
And me with his father, Richard in 1971 (and with niece Ann, now mother of Laura)
Okay maybe I did look a bit younger…, had more hair…, dressed differently, was perhaps even thinner, but the two babies, father and son, are just identical. Continue reading »

I am very much enjoying venividi, the photo blog of a polish architect in Cork (which he has kindly called Rain only makes it better) particularly his recent photos of the undulating Tuscan landscape.
Having commented thus on one of his entries he used my word (and credited it to me ) to title a later posting.
This made me remember where I came across the word for the first time. Continue reading »

A few day’s ago I was tagged by George. Being short of time I gradually got around to fulfilling my part of the bargain; from posting the six words which might be used to describe me, to tagging five other foodie’s.This morning I finally got around to tagging them properly; yes, I know it’s a bit late, but I reckon that it’s better late than never…
Only one of my victim’s submitted voluntarily to the fun; and that was Deborah. Continue reading »

It’s been three weeks since I’ve been out for dinner in Belfast, but can it really have changed that much in such short space of time? We’re going out with Wonderwoman and her better half on Saturday night and getting a table in any restaurant in the city has proved difficult. Is it just me or was it not like this a month ago? And what’s worse is that we’re meant to be on the cusp of a recession. So why are all these people out being merry near the end of the month? There is a vegetarian recipe that I decided to try on my girlfriend to see what she thought of it. I got the idea when she bought bean burgers in the supermarket and was complaining that they were dry and bland. When I decided to try to make bean burgers I thought that I will try 3 different flavours. Continue reading »

My brother-in-law Milo was eighty last night.
We all celebrated this with some style in Kellys in Rosslare.
I, as is my wont, wrote him a poem, this time a pastiche of his favourite ballad.
I could load you all down with explanations and cross references but I decided to leave that to future scholars to discover.
The Bold Milo Lynch

For rugby, for tennis, for dance or romancin’
For drinkin’ black porter or Scotch at a pinch.
You could search Cork and Clare, but there. Continue reading »

Even though everyday should be Earth day, today’s holiday serves as a reminder that it is our responsibility to do something healthy for the environment. Every single one of us can do something to “go green” and now it’s more important than ever that we do.
Whether it’s going green in the kitchen, consuming organic food (or not), the following information may be helpful to you in your Earth Day quests. Continue reading »
