It wasn’t me

A post by Valerie O'Connor at Vals Kitchen

I was not in the short list to receive the award of best food blog, as you can see, this did not stop me from my own delusion

This did not make me win however!!! But as you can see here

I met lots of fun people as always including Frank who blogs about his business in foam, he made the clever thought and speech bubbles, which were wide open for abuse all night

This is moi with Lorraine, Maz and Devin

Thanks to Damian for a great night.  Continue reading »

Mardi Gras Stuffed Mirlitons

A post by Gavan Murphy aka the H.I. at The Healthy Irishman

Thanksgiving before last I had my first Southern feast. The dish that has been on my mind ever since and the one I’ve been wanting to try was the stuffed Mirlitons. Man they were good. Back then I had no idea what I was eating but my mouth was in heaven. Since then I’ve found out a thing or two about this dish and have finally tried making them in hopes of recreating that great taste.  Continue reading »

Pancakes! Yay!

A post by jean at CheapEats.ie

It’s Pancake Tuesday tomorrow, just in case you hadn’t noticed your local shop trying to make displays of flour and Jif lemon look enticing.
I love pancakes and eat them regularly, and often make American Pancakes as an alternative to crepes.  They’re smaller and thicker than the usual pancakes, and because of this other ingredients can…  Continue reading »

The Strongman visits the Scottish ‘Hardman’

A post by noreply@blogger.com (John Ferris) at Food and Drink

Gordon Ramsay; what more is there to be said? Predicted to be worth £100 million by the end of the year, regarded as the best chef in the world, conquerer of America, holder of a positive review from John Ferris, is there anything else for the man to achieve? They say Alexander the Great wept tears when he learned there were no more worlds to conquer, so is the Scottish ‘hardman’ bawling like a winning actress at the oscars?  Continue reading »

Shane Hegarty had a piece in Saturday’s Times recommending Ireland’s most essential blogs, and CheapEats made the list!
Cheapeats.ie
“Tough times, great food,” it promises. The site’s growing popularity backs that up.
Taster: This week: “The amount of times I’ve thrown out bread is criminal. It’s so easy to buy a sliced pan and find yourself eating only…  Continue reading »

It’s always good to get some recognition in the press for our efforts to bring interesting wines to Ireland, not least because flicking idly through the leisure pages of a computer over the weekend breakfast is still a minority pursuit.
Here’s an excerpt from Saturday’s Irish Times, where John Wilson gives a push to the rustic Malbecs of Cahors in south-western France.  Continue reading »

Douglas Village in Cork is bustling on a Saturday night with loads of reasonably priced places to eat like Barry’s and Eco. Last Saturday we opted for Amicus, where the old Citrus had been in the East Village. We arrived at eight and given a table in the middle of the very busy restaurant. A request for a different table away from the main thoroughfare was entertained but to no avail, everything was booked. No problem.  Continue reading »

Dunnes Takes on Aldi

A post by peter at CheapEats.ie

In a not so subtle way, it looks at if Dunnes are trying to take on Aldi this week. They’ve got a pretty good offer on fruit and vegetables. The following are just 79c:
Punnet of 5 peaches
Punnet of 5 nectarines
6 Irish apples
St. Bernard Celery
St. Bernard cherry tomatoes
750g Exquisa baby potatoes
Like Tesco, they seem to think…  Continue reading »

How quaint that Tesco are billing reduced price fish as “Ash Wednesday offers”. Yes indeed, Tesco do have all the righteousness of a preacher. Either that or they’re desperate for some seasonal tie-ins.
Also on offer this week at Tesco:
Loose lemons – still half price at 22c each
20 bottles of Coors Lite or Budweiser – €16.99…  Continue reading »

No, I’m not kidding. In fact, you may have seen them already as they are being used by some of the UK’s top supermarkets, including Sainbury’s, as you can see from the range pictured left. Some believe it to be the next big thing. Whether it is or not, you are sure to see more over the next few years.  Continue reading »

Farmer Gobshite?

A post by Amanda at Organic Yum-Yum

This may seem like old news but I’ve been waiting for an update, waiting to hear that the corporation that owns the patent on the seeds that this farmer used was going to sue him. After all we know the biotech companies are very litigious and are happy to sue even those using their seeds through accidental contamination.
But I’m still waiting.  Continue reading »

Up the Badger’s Arse

A post by The Beer Nut at The Beer Nut

Deveney’s off licence in downtown Dundrum has set up a regular series of themed beer tastings – a laudable effort at broadening the horizons of south Dublin’s beer drinking public. I went along to the first one on Friday, just to give some support, of course, and nothing at all to do with the free beer.  Continue reading »
