Last Sunday was the last day of the 3 day long Christmas Show put together by Food & Wine Magazine at the RDS so I thought this is the last chance and off into the car (thanks God for a lovely gentleman who drove all the way through that bad weather).
Anyway, we made it in one piece although slightly delayed which resulted in a lesser entrance fee .  Continue reading »

Foreward: Often people ask just how exactly myself and himself met, so  I thought it would be handy if I put together a little series of posts laying out the low-down with as many details as can tastefully be shared. If you are not into sappy love stories I’d give it a skip.
As you may have guessed by now, I was not e-x-a-c-t-l-y the kind of girl who dreamed of breaking away and living a grow-it-yourself-country-life complete with the strapping fella and the charming beat-up Land Rover.  Continue reading »

Thanksgiving rocked this year! Can’t you tell by that delicious plate of food in that picture? The turkey was better than usual, and I maxed out on all the different sides. Plus, I woke up early to make my own Green Bean Casserole this year. Check out my Thanksgiving dinner collage after the jump!

When the Irish Foodies decided upon a Winter Warmer theme for the November cookalong I was delighted – one of my favourite things about winter is the comfort food that warms the cockles on cold dark days. It was quite hard for me to pick just one recipe and I must have changed my mind at least ten times but in the end I decided upon a rich, deep, savoury Beef & Guinness Pie, served up with some creamy mash.  Continue reading »

A post by likemamusedtobake at like mam used to bake

Ireland has been experiencing snowy weather these past few days.  On Friday night I was witness to a lightning storm, the like of which I have not witnessed before in Ireland.  The whole night sky was illuminated with each flash and they grew progressively more frequent as the night went on.  A quick check in with the lovely @yddib over on twitter to pick the brain of her very own personal weather man explained that it was the result of hail clouds colliding.  When I woke the next morning we had the lightest dusting of snow and sure I was only delighted with life, until I phoned my sister that is.  “Oh we have a few inches here, can’t even see where the kerb ends and the road begins.”  Show off!  That was me on snow watch for the rest of the day, willing the clouds to empty their load so I could concur, “oh we have inches here, won’t be venturing outside the door in that”.  Alas it was not to happen.  I toddled off to bed to dream of snow angels and snow ball fights.  Continue reading »

A Tale of Two Thanksgivings

A post by KathrynSteed at Chew On That

Thanksgiving weekend is over and I’m still stuffed!  Why?  This year, I had the pleasure of indulging in not one, but TWO Thanksgiving dinners! I don’t think I can ever look at another piece of turkey again.  I had a great time, though!  Read about my two tasty dinners after the jump!  Continue reading »

Garlic Bread w/cheese at Italian Connection

I’ve had this post sitting in my drafts folder (or at least the title of it anyway) to look back at the first month of food blogging. With today being the 29th it turns out I’m over by almost a week, the first blog post dated October 24th.
So over the past month I’ve got to say I’ve enjoyed myself immensely.  Continue reading »

Guild by association

A post by The Beer Nut at The Beer Nut

Thursday last saw the annual awards dinner of the British Guild of Beer Writers. Over the last couple of years I’ve read enviously of the event’s food-and-drink proceedings on other blogs so this year I decided I’d hie myself over to London for the evening and experience it first hand. With, y’know, the outside possibility of a supplementary beer or two somewhere on the peripheries of the occasion. There’s an Old Ale Festival on at The White Horse at the same time?  Continue reading »

Poor Rufus nearly choked when I told him that the ’secret’ ingredient in the mash was seaweed.
The occasion was that Irish-themed dinner party of mine and the mash in question was a union of three card-carrying Irish ingredients: potatoes, butter and dillisk.  Continue reading »

Food & Wine Magazine Christmas Show

The Food & Wine Magazine Christmas Show at the RDS was an event I’d been looking forward to for ages. As soon as I had heard the dates and details announced I’d said to myself I’d try everything to get to Dublin this weekend and take in at least one day of the event. Yes, Taste Of Dublin was announced for the same weekend but on review the RDS seemed like a better bet for me and, it certainly didn’t disappoint.  Continue reading »
