Ah, the supermarket. It’s part of our lives whether we like it or not. Personally supermarket aisles throw me into a kind of panic. It’s either that or I fall into a coma looking at the tens of thousands of products and sixty or more aisles of stuff I mainly don’t need in my life.  Continue reading »

In at number 40 on the Hot 100 list:yes, it’s my top-of-the-pops moment

Well, well, well. I appear to be operating at a sizzle these days, at least if this year’s Food and Wine Magazine Hot 100 list is anything to go by. Amongst mentions in the list for fellow bloggers Niamh Shields from Eat Like A Girl, Aoife Carrigy from Holy Mackerel and Joanna Schaffalitzky from Smorgasblog – lovely ladies all – I was very flattered to see this here blog listed for the second year.  Continue reading »

Rhubarb Tagliatelle

A post by Wholesome Ireland at wholesomeireland.com

Okay I admit it, I have a bit of an obsession with Rhubarb.  It is one of my favourite fruits and because it’s in season at the moment it’s very easy, and cheap to get….  Continue reading »

Risotto
Les Gourmandises – 1er classe
It wasn’t a full house but the chef played a blinder at Les Gourmandises on Friday night. In terms of execution, presentation, taste, creativity and innovation, this was a masterclass, a feast for the eye as much as for the mouth. Exquisite.
CL is not really a Risotto person but her starter (Tomato and Basil Risotto, goat cheese beignet,.  Continue reading »

Foodie Roundup #43: March 18th to 24th 2012

Summertime is in, the clocks have changed, the sun is out (thank God), the grass is cut for the first time this year, so all in all that means it’s time for this week’s Foodie Roundup, a look back at ten posts from ten Irish food bloggers this past week – grand for your outdoor reading on a day like today.  Continue reading »

A new Irish organic milk will hit selected shelves very soon. Ballymore Farm’s Organic Whole Milk is non-homogenised, and will retail in glass bottles for E2 per Litre. The team also produce Ireland’s first raw milk butter, as well as their own fruit and natural yoghurts.
A husband and wife team – Aidan Harney and Mary Davis – along with their business partner Joey Bourke own and operate the processing and distribution end, called Ballymore Farm.  Continue reading »

Our readers are smart cookies, and they know that the best kind of cookie is often of the ‘No-Bake’ variety. They also love the ease of a famous Jello® recipe! Now we want to know which recipes have you reaching for a second helping by hosting a showdown between No-Bake and Jello desserts in our Sweets 16 bracket. Keep reading to see the poll, and make your pick for the desserts that deserve to advance to the “Enticing Eight”. More after the jump!  Continue reading »

Whens the last time you went into the city for dinner?
I found myself asking this question yesterday after having a chance to sample some of what Dublin has to offer.
Spring has arrived, the clocks go forward and hopefully we’ll start getting more amazing days like today. So why not get out and experience what Dublin has to offer! From Monday 26th of March till Sunday 1st of April it’s Dine in Dublin Restaurant Week.  Continue reading »

Another Saturday comes around again which brings us to the 4th Food Bytes roundup with a selection of ten blog posts from ten international food bloggers (i.e. those outside of Ireland). Local Beer-O

A post by Daily Spud at The Daily Spud

WJ Kavanagh, Dorset St.

Now here’s something that I couldn’t be more pleased about – the opening of WJ Kavanagh’s on Dorset St., by the people who brought you L. Mulligan Grocer. The Mulligan’s crew have done nothing short of redefine what it means to be an Irish pub with Irish grub and Dublin is a better place because of their endeavours. The new premises is bigger and brighter than L.  Continue reading »

Sowing + Hoeing

A post by imen at {farmette}

Spring has sprung on the craggy isle and riding along with it the familiar niggling notion that we’d better get sowing and hoeing.  Bit by bit, we’ve put together a growing plan which sounds really grown up, but basically involves two large children sitting at the kitchen table scratching heads, scribbling notes, drawing makeshift pictures with crayons, vehemently disagreeing and then once again concluding that Richard {i.e.  Continue reading »

Bushmills Live

A post by David Havelin at Irish Whiskey Notes

I’ve been sneaking music videos into some of the articles here lately. I figure nobody drinks whiskey in silence and I write these pieces to a soundtrack anyway so you might as well hear what I’m listening to (only if you want to, of course).
Bushmills has noticed how well whiskey and music blend too. In the US, indie band Bon Iver has been fronting some of their marketing. Now Bushmills is bringing it all home with a live concert at the distillery.  Continue reading »

The Jacob’s Creek ‘Wine & Dine Experience’ is back for another year, but this time they are hitting the road and will be visiting Dublin, Cork, Galway and Waterford. Last year’s event, at the magnificent Christchurch Cathedral, was met with huge praise and anyone who attended the event was treated to a truly unique and special dining experience. This year’s event promises to be just as impressive.  Continue reading »

Kinvara Organic Smoked Salmon with Pasta & Asparagus.
This recipe cries out for a Glass of wine or two, to go with the rich creaminess of the sauce. We suggest finding a nice Chardonnay or Pinot Gris.  Continue reading »

Sweet potato, chilli and lemongrass soup

A post by noreply@blogger.com (mama deer) at tofu for tea

I was pondering the soup possibilities yesterday with what I had in the cupboard. The giant sweet potatoes with the pink, woody skin seemed to speak to me. Add in the kick of a chili and the calming presence of lemongrass and we’ve got a killer soup. Not literally unless you add too much chili maybe.  Continue reading »
