Bushmills Live
A post by David Havelin at Irish Whiskey Notes

I’ve been sneaking music videos into some of the articles here lately. I figure nobody drinks whiskey in silence and I write these pieces to a soundtrack anyway so you might as well hear what I’m listening to (only if you want to, of course).
Bushmills has noticed how well whiskey and music blend too. In the US, indie band Bon Iver has been fronting some of their marketing. Now Bushmills is bringing it all home with a live concert at the distillery. Continue reading »
Wild Salad

This morning we were out early. I needed more milk for the fridge and strong flour for breadmaking. On the way to the Supermarket I noticed some wild garlic nestled in between some shrubby and…. Continue reading »

Caffé Italiano Italee If you find yourself needing a coffee at the Parnell Place end of Cork’s Oliver Plunkett Street, then you could do worse than pop into Caffé Italiano Italee, Cork’s newest Italian Caffé. I had a lovely Americano and a strawberry pastry there the other day. Both were good and the prices were reasonable, as seemed the case with their wine. Continue reading »
Cookies for Katniss
A post by Vicky at S'tasty

Whenever I read a book like The Hunger Games, I get totally immersed in that world. I want to taste the biscuits from Mellark’s bakery; I want to feast my eyes on pale purple melon. I want to live it as I read it. With the movie comes out this weekend, we’ll finally get to see if the Hollywood version lives up to all our imaginations. I wanted to make a simple biscuit for a Hunger Games feast. Continue reading »
Coronation chicken fit for a queen
A post by Matt Kane at Curious: The Curious Wines Wine Blog

Most of us know coronation chicken as a sandwich filler. It was originally created for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, but now it is a tasty, easy to prepare everyday meal for peasants like me.
This version can be served with a salad and a hunk of freshly baked crusty bread, but by all means use the leftovers for lunch the next day. It will work a treat between two slices of Pat the Baker. Continue reading »
Jacob’s Creek Wine & Dine Experience hits the road
A post by dudara at Stitch and Bear
Last year, I received an invitation to attend a pop-up wine & dine experience, courtesy of Jacob’s Creek. Dinner was to be provided in a secret, unexpected Dublin location, and would be accompanied by loads of wine and games. And so it was that we found ourselves in the Crypt of Christchurch cathedral where we were treated to a meal from chef Clodagh McKenna and a crash course in wine education from David Whelehan. The Wild Boar Pub, Stepaside, Dublin 18
A post by dudara at Stitch and Bear
Writing about restaurants is a pretty tough job. It takes some dedication, and a lot of my weekends involve planning for both lunch and dinner. Mind you, food blogging is not as hard as my real job, which has me visiting the US for yet another 3 weeks. It’s tough being away from home and family for 3 weeks, compounded by the fact that an ocean separates you. The plus side, as a food blogger is getting to eat at a whole new range of restaurants. With Summer just around the corner, and weather forecasters promising a scorcher, we thought we’d do some preparation and sort out which white wines we’d be quaffing over the BBQ season. Those New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs are great, but McGuigan Wines are shouting about their Semillon Blanc 2011. With crisp citrus flavours, we think it’s perfect Summer-time sipping! Retro Raspberry Buns
A post by Aoife - Babaduck at Babaduck
My first real cooking experience was in First Year of secondary school where we were taught the basics by Mrs. Dodd (god love her patience). On the book list was a tome called "All About Home Economics" by Deirdre Madden and this was to be my grounding in food for the next three years. It was a pretty unremarkable looking book with it's oatmeal textured cover and simple line drawings, but it's what started me on the long and winding road to where I am today. Continue reading »
Pan Perdu and Forgotten Berries – a Serendipitous Breakfast !
A post by Hester Casey at Alchemy in The Kitchen - Simple Ingredients, Magical Food

Last night I had wandered into the kitchen to get the strawberries I’d prepared for dessert, but took a wrong turn and got waylaid by a couple of beers and a plate of salted almonds. The strawberries were completely forgotten! Overnight, they wept beneath their sprinkling of sugar and their drizzle of balsamic glaze. Next morning when I opened the fridge to get milk for my cereal, there they were, silently accusing.
What could I do to salvage the situation? Continue reading »
Butternut Squash & Chickpea Soup with Kale, Chorizo & Chickpea Topping
A post by Gastrogirl at Gastronomics.ie

Yep, I know, far too many ingredients. What happened was that I got a notion for Butternut Squash soup, and then when googling images on how best to present it, found this topping. And I just so happened to have those ingredients in the pantry / fridge, got really excited about this fact, et voila, they got dumped on top of the soup. Simply omit if you have more of a life than I do
This is a relatively cheap (butternut squash is no longer the preserve of specialist grocers, thank heavens), healthy, low-cal and enormously filling soup – it really is a meal in itself rather than a starter or snack, great for those early spring evenings! Continue reading »

Stinging Nettles
A post by WiseMóna at Wise Words

Nettles get a bad rap around here. I am not sure why.
I know they have those hairy hypodermic needle-like bristles that emit a formic acid, which, on bare flesh, causes a sting that can last from a few minutes to 24 hours, (baking soda will neutralize the acid if you get stung), but I do not think that is a good enough reason to steer clear of them.
They are more than plentiful for eight or nine months of the year and they are free. They literally grow along the side of the road. Continue reading »
