We’re right in the middle of a Halloween whirlwind, but we wanted to take a break from our Halloween coverage to bring another important event to your attention.
October is Fair Trade Month and celeb dietitian Ashley Koff R.D. has shared some healthy recipes with us that use Fair Trade certified produce and ingredients.
Ashley supports Fair Trade and is working to raise the volume of buying Fair Trade Certified products like tea, coffee, chocolate and produce.  Continue reading »

Very simple recipe again today, I’m doing these recipes keeping in mind that people want something fast & convenient to prepare after work and that’s where #RIFsauces come in very handy. This recipe does involve the oven which always adds time but the preparation is ridiculously easy and fast so that makes up for the cooking time.  Continue reading »

Another month gone by and it really feels like the year’s end is racing up to greet us. Looking back over the days since my last post, it struck me that a lot has happened and a lot of ground has been covered. We even managed to get some holiday time in and travelled to the West of Ireland.
For as long as I remember, I’ve loved Led Zeppelin.  Continue reading »

Writers Tears Cask Strength 2012

A post by David Havelin at Liquid Irish

There is a new Writers Tears Cask Strength coming next week. It will be 52% ABV and is, like the standard bottling, a blend of pot still and malt whiskeys, entirely matured in bourbon casks (all first-fill here).
There was a Writers Tears Cask Strength last year too but this is a fresh batch of 1,800 bottles. The packaging has been updated too. The simple wooden framing of the bottle is more elegant, I think, than the previous over-elaborate lacquered box.  Continue reading »

News has emerged today that Cootehill Farms, also known as Co-Operative Poultry Products Ltd in Cavan is to close with the loss of 90 jobs. It comes at a time when chicken producers and processors are under incredible pressure to deal with the spiraling cost of animal feed which is making business for some, unsustainable.
The company had been trading in Cavan, the centre of Irish poultry production since 1949.  Continue reading »

I am not a straight ‘A’ student. I never have been, and I never will be.
I am more of the ‘creative’ kind of student. One that reads slowly and learns at a different pace.
I never thought that college was for me, (somedays I am still not sure it is) but what changed my way of thinking was the course I took.  Continue reading »

A lof of my friends and family call me a lucky person. You may call me a jammy git, but over the years, I have won a fair amount of competitions and prizes, including many books, tickets to U2, and a top prize of an IBM laptop. (A huge prize for a poor postgraduate student). I don’t have any secret to my success though – other than the fact that I enter competitions. It takes a second to pop your name in the draw and you could very well win.  Continue reading »

BEFORE MOVING house, the only thing that was a regular feature in the freezer was a tub of Ben & Jerry’s. Me, I’m a big fan of their Coconutterly Fair ice cream, but when it comes down to it, I’m not going to refuse a helping of any of their range.
One of the more recent additions to the Ben & Jerry’s line has been the Vermonster, drawn from the Vermont homeland of Ben & Jerry’s.  Continue reading »

Hi folks,

It’s time for big wooly jumpers, crunchy fallen leaves, crisp evening walks and the smell of open fires, yes it’s definitely October!

Seattle, Here I come!

A post by Vicky at S'tasty

In just one months time I will moving to Seattle. It’s an enormous adventure and an exciting new chapter in our lives. Having been for a visit, I fell in love with Pike Place market and all the little farmers makers dotted around Woodinville and Kirkland. We ate out and discovered so many great restaurants and the best Vietnamese I’ve had outside Vietnam. I can’t wait to do my shopping in Wholefoods and already know where I’m going to get my milk.  Continue reading »

Four Star Break in Lahinch
Liscannor
The Lahinch Golf and Leisure Hotel  was our comfortable base for a recent short trip to the northern corner of County Clare. Lahinch is famous for its golf facilities and the other sport that draws big numbers to the Atlantic town is surfing. Both sports are well catered for. But we weren’t there for the sport! Well nothing more strenuous than walking.  Continue reading »
