One of my favorite songs is Sting’s Englishman in New York. Particularly the lyric “I don’t drink coffee, I drink tea my dear.” That describes me perfectly. Well, kind of. I drink coffee on occasion, but I prefer tea. Specifically, Earl Grey tea. The aroma of bergamot oranges instantly relaxes me, and the warmth of the drink just about puts me in a trance. So, I thought I’d share with you how I go about making the perfect pot of tea.  Continue reading »

Amuse Bouche

A post by Billy Lyons at RESTAURANTS AND FOOD IN CORK

…..a Corkman’s testimony to the Irish Folklore Commission declared that even after the Great Hunger ended, “Old people said it was God’s will to have the famine come. They abused fine food when they had it aplenty.”
And if it were not God’s will, then it was the work of God’s dark opposite. It was said that an old woman of Rossport in County Mayo, returning home, saw her potatoes rotting and.  Continue reading »

A Mugful Of Mojo

A post by Daily Spud at The Daily Spud

In its original sense, a mojo is a small bag containing one or more magical items, traditionally made for an individual who conceals it on their person at all times in order to have some desired magical effect. For every dedicated blogger, there is almost always some occasionally mysterious and generally non-financial something – a mojo if you will – which fuels their blogging fire.  Continue reading »

Magic Man

A post by Mal at An Erudite Sybarite

It’s been a while since I’ve written a restaurant review, not that we haven’t been eating out or that there hasn’t been anything worthwhile reviewing. Given the current economic situation, it’s great to see the large number of new restaurants that have opened this year, and greater still to see how well they’re doing. And with Christmas just over a month away, they’ll hopefully be busier than ever, which is a win/win for everybody.  Continue reading »

Champagne Dinner at Greene’s
Bruno Paillard comes to town
A dinner with a difference at Greene’s of McCurtain Street this week. Not alone was champagne served with each course but it was also used as an ingredient in each.
This marriage of the wine-making skills at Bruno Paillard and the cooking skills of Green’s French chef Frederic Desormeaux meant we enjoyed a super evening.

Our final trip in Sri Lanka could only be in search of one thing – a cup of the black stuff. Ceylon tea. Kettle in hand we set off from Colombo for the hill country early this morning. A three hour drive. Or so I thought.

Somehow I confused three with six. Let’s blame the heat. Ahem.

But I’d have put up with many more hours for the breathtaking views of lush green plantations and waterfalls.

Along the way we stopped to visit the Glenloch Tea Factory.  Continue reading »
