This €1-2 meal comes in at €1.57 per person and is both fun and substantial. This is a very old recipe and has been forgotten from the average household’s meal repertoire: it will fill bellies without emptying pockets. Kids and adults will love this forgotten dinner treat.
Caution: as with the thin and crispy Italian pizzas, be careful that your kids don’t have too many friends over for dinner when you are doing these recipes.  Continue reading »

When I was back home in the US in July, my friend Leah and I took a day trip to the wineries of southwestern Michigan, but before we made our way to a few of them, we stopped for lunch first. We had planned to have a posh lunch at the Tabor Hill Winery but it turned out they were closed on the day we went, so we backtracked to the lakeside resort town of New Buffalo, complete with waterfront condos and shops selling taffy, tacky souvenirs and cheap T-shirts.  Continue reading »

I thought I would be missing the Electric Picnic this year due to a lack of funds and free time (I’m off on holidays to New! York! on Wednesday – I’d love to hear your NY restaurant tips).  But then my awesome pal Jules offered me a plus one on her freebie day pass for Sunday.  Best of both worlds: I got to go down and partake of some of the fun while still saving some cash and babysitter credits for my holiday.  Continue reading »

A bag of butter beans on the kitchen shelf was the inspiration for this month’s Irish Foodies’ Cookalong. Soaked overnight, then thrown into the pot by themselves – or with some onions, carrots and celery – for about an hour the next morning, the beans needed little attention other than checking the water level every so often. And that’s the hard work done for this Greek Bean and Tomato Stew, which is based on a recipe by great Australian cook Jill Dupliex.  Continue reading »

Creamy Cauliflower Soup

A post by Supper Satisfaction at Supper Satisfaction

It seems like summer is on the way out today and as usual we’ve gone straight back to winter! Some soup on the blog today to banish the rain. Cauliflower and veg are gently simmered in chicken stock, then flavoured with white pepper and freshly grated nutmeg.

Like the other soups I’ve posted, this is great served with a slice or two of Weight Watchers whole meal bread and a little low fat butter, or 2 slices of wheaten bread such as Mc Cambridges.  Continue reading »

Blackberry Coulis

A post by Nessa Robins at Nessa's Family Kitchen

It is now high season for blackberries. Hedgerows and clumps of briars are laden down with these delicious berries. As with most fruit this year the crop is plentiful. Generally I would transform blackberries into jam but since I haven’t yet recovered from my ‘jam making marathon’ in June I opted to turn these beautiful berries into a coulis.  Continue reading »

All right, you got me

A post by The Beer Nut at The Beer Nut

There’s obviously something to this whole online viral marketing thingy. I’m more-or-less past the stage where I buy every new beer that becomes available in Dublin off licences. It’s all the fault of the importers and retailers who are much better at their jobs than this blog requires them to be. Especially the guys at DrinkStore who take great pride in cramming tiny amounts of everything onto their shelves and into the “Tardis” stockroom.  Continue reading »

Anyone who uses twitter will be familiar with hash tags. For those that aren’t familiar with twitter a hash tag is just a word or phrase at the end of a message that is preceded by a hash (#) that makes it easy to find similar posts.

Foodporn by ChefPaul10

One of the better known hash tags is #foodporn and if you have a look here you will see message after message assigned to the tag, most will have a link to a picture of some food while some are people chatting about food.  Continue reading »
